Best Chicken Sandwich…

photo[2]

without the chicken. I will say of all the foods that I’ve given up due to be a vegetarian a fried chicken sandwich is the one I miss the most. The juiciness of the meat the texture of the crisp breading. It’s hard to argue against it. I’ve found a solution to this missing item in my life, it’s called The Crazy Train and its being served up at The Highline in cap hill. I’ve heard quite a bit about the place in the past month and for the most part only good things. I was worried heading in there that I’d be a bit out of my element as its been described as a somewhat hardcore-metal group of people. I found the opposite to be true, yes there’s definitely metal playing in the bar, but they were some of the friendliest staff I’ve met on the hill. They even offered us some pancakes and peanut butter syrup that they were testing out. FYI they were tasty, thanks!

We started off with a couple of beers, I had a wheat beer because you know, they’re way good. Then came the menus, I couldn’t believe how much there was to choose from and its all vegan!  I ordered up the crazy train and a side of fries. The menu lists the sandwich as being comprised of : breaded soy chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, and avocado. I should have just stuck to the sandwich, because there’s so much food its hard to believe that you can eat it all. I tried to play down my memories of biting into a real chicken sandwich as I feared being disappointed that it might not match up. To my surprise every bite of the sandwich tasted exactly what I remember of its meat equivalent. These guys have skill, I would challenge any non-veggie person to eat this and not think it was chicken. I always consider the sign of good food to be left full but still wanting more because it tastes so good and this does exactly that.

Kudos to the Highline. Can’t wait to go back and try the reubender and the philly dip.

*Sorry about the quality of the photos it was dark… and no flash. I’ll be sure to take some new ones when I go back.
